An earth-breaking ceremony for the Niah Fire Station project will be held on Aug 26.
The project costing RM5.5 million would serve Niah, Suai and Bekenu and it will be equipped with two fire engines and two rescue boats. Plans are also on-going to request for a fire brigade ambulance service.
Currently, Niah, Suai and Bekenu are served by the Miri Fire Station which is too far away if a fire was to break loose.
The new station will have 12 permanent firefighters, a station chief and an assistant station chief, with 12 locals also recruited to help in.
The Niah Fire Station would take 18 months to complete from the date of submission of the site (to the developer).
